SCOTTISH BORDERS COUNCIL (SBC) is introducing a 20mph trial across over 90 Borders towns and villages starting in October 2020, as part of the Spaces for People programme which is funded by the Scottish Government and managed by Sustrans Scotland.
The Spaces for People programme will aim to make it easier and safer for people to walk, cycle and wheel for everyday journeys during the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic.
All signage across all Borders towns and villages is due to be in place by December 2020.
The 20mph limit in Newcastleton, Chesters, Bonchester Bridge, Denholm, Minto, and Hawick is programmed to start from the week commencing 5th October 2020, when new signage will be installed. Full details of start dates can be found here
SBC will be seeking feedback from communities in 2021 on which of the temporary measures are working and which are not. This will be complemented by an academic evaluation of the programme by Edinburgh Napier University.
